Ubisoft discontinues Unity season pass and apoligises for launch issues with free DLC and free games

The launch of Assassin’s Creed: Unity caused a stir amongst gamers and critics a like for being riddled with bugs and glitches, as well as its post-launch review embargo.

Although Ubisoft has patched the game several times since launch and continues to endeavour to solve any issues, today it has decided to offer an olive branch to fans of the franchise. In an email sent today to those who purchased the game, CEO of Ubisoft Montreal & Toronto, Yannis Mallat, issued a statement apologising for the state of the game at launch.

Unfortunately, at launch, the overall quality of the game was diminished by bugs and unexpected technical issues. I want to sincerely apologize on behalf of Ubisoft and the entire Assassin’s Creed team. These problems took away from your enjoyment of the game, and kept many of you from experiencing the game at its fullest potential.Yannis Mallat, CEO of Ubisoft Montreal & Toronto

By way of an apology, Ubisoft will be offering the forthcoming Dead Kings DLC for free for everyone. This DLC has no set release date yet. For season pass holders, Ubisoft will be offering an additional title for free from the following choices:

  • The Crew
  • Far Cry 4
  • Watch Dogs
  • Assassin’s Creed Black Flag
  • Rayman Legends
  • Just Dance 2015

Ubisoft is in the process of setting up the system to fulfill this offer but promise “an update on how to claim your free game soon“.

Furthermore, Ubisoft is discontinuing sales of the Assassin’s Creed Unity season pass, however, season pass holders will continue to have access to a variety of content, including Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China.
